In Topaz Studio, all changes are reliant on you dragging a slider. With many photo editors, you can adjust brightness, color, and contrast by dragging your mouse over the part of your photo you wish to change. Also, I don’t like how the split-screen before-and-after comparison shows the original photo in its un-cropped state.įurthermore, I would like to see Topaz Labs adopt targeted adjustments. For example, you can’t show the histogram and navigator at the same time. Nevertheless, there are a few opportunities for improvement. As mentioned earlier, Topaz’s Labs has succeeded in a near-seamless integration of layer-based editing. Thanks to its singular purpose and streamlined interface, Topaz Studio 2 is both simple and quick to use. Overall, Topaz Studio 2’s performance is much better than Paint Shop Pro, slower than ACDSee, and about the same as Luminar AI and Affinity Photo. However, I find this the case with almost all photo editors. In terms of loading presets and Looks, Topaz Studio 2 is quick but not instant. The healing brush is very effective but it takes several seconds to process each of your selections. However, Studio does not always react to your adjustments immediately and occasionally falls behind as you slide in an effect. Panning and zooming are immediate and responsive. Performanceįor the most part, Topaz Studio 2 runs pretty well. Ergonomically, the interface is clean and performance is reasonable. For example, you may reduce a layer’s opacity to 50%, making it transparent and diminishing its effect on the layers below it. Since your adjustments are contained to layers, your photo remains preserved in its original state no matter how much it appears to change.Īnd since each adjustment is contained to its own layer, you can adjust, disable, or delete an adjustment without affecting another.įurthermore, you can change the way each layer interacts with the other by altering its opacity. Whereas most photo editors write your adjustments directly to your image, adjustments in Topaz Studio 2 are committed to layers. Making adjustments in Topaz Studio 2 is a little different compared to most photo editors. Whether you’re looking for a discrete effect or a visual explosion, Topaz Labs is happy to oblige. With a single click, you can blur your images, add textures, turn details into brush strokes, and much more.įortunately, you can choose the strength in which a Look is applied. Whilst other photo editors will add a little contrast and a bit of saturation, the looks in Topaz Studio 2 can melt your eyeballs. The Looks in Topaz Studio are best described as dramatic. Here, I’ve saved my adjustments to a new Look called imaginatively called ‘Richard’

The Print Shop Deluxe opening screen where you choose your “project”įor those of you who are unfamiliar with the Print Shop Deluxe and Print Shop Deluxe Companion that make up The Print Shop Deluxe Ensemble, they are two programs used to create, or compose: greeting cards, signs, banners, postcards, calendars, posters, business cards, certificates and envelopes. No e-mail to no on-line help except an antiquated FAQ, and certainly no “1-800" number should you want to ask about a product (or, maybe even order it!). However, Broderbund does not provide any way for their customers to contact them at all, except through a long distance phone call. When I saw the advertisement for the Print Shop Publishing Suite, I thought that maybe this time Broderbund would finally get it right. But, by disabling Virtual Memory, keeping non-Apple extensions to a minimum, and using no other programs when it’s running, we’ve managed to keep it going. Each upgrade brought a new challenge-from crashing at virtually every start-up, to not printing. The original Print Shop’s problems with the Mac are legendary, but I’ve somehow been able to keep a copy of The Print Shop Deluxe Ensemble running on my wife’s Mac (she happens to like it, and uses it a lot!) through 3 different Mac models and various system upgrades. Rarely have I been as disappointed in a computer software product as I am with Broderbund’s “new” Print Shop Publishing Suite. 45 MB hard disk space available 256 Colors (or more, but see Review) at 640 by 480 Stream #0.0: Audio: mp3, 44100 Hz, 2 channels, s16, 208 kb/sįile 'con.mp3' already exists. The literature consistently illustrates that children who engage in outdoor free play more often demonstrate increased physical activity (Brussoni, et. During the Pandemic, play was very limited for children, especially outdoor play. Play is a crucial aspect of childhood development, socialization, physical, and mental health. I was nervous to begin this school year because of the clear deficit this class had socially and physically, but through play, the gap has closed significantly. I have been amazed to see how quickly my current class of students (Pandemic Toddlers) have learned to socialize, imagine, play, and grow. Our goal is to prepare students to develop an enthusiasm for learning, an ability to function in a social setting, age-appropriate communication and problem-solving skills, and maintain optimal health ( First Class Pre-K, n.d.). Alabama First Class Pre-K uses a play-based learning program. To bridge the gap for these students, play based learning was pertinent. We have had several guardians confess they were nervous to leave their child at school because they had never been separated from them before.Īlthough the Pandemic Toddlers in my classroom came to me academically much higher on average than previous years, they also came to me this year with a deficit in social skills, imagination, creativity, and physical activity. Some of these children admittedly had never been anywhere since the Covid-19 Pandemic. The only environment they were able to explore was the one they were quarantined in for half their life. They were isolated from other children their age and going places like playgrounds, public spaces, schools, daycares, etc. These children only learned to read the facial expressions of those they shared a home with, as any other faces they saw in person were covered with a mask. al, 2022).Īt the age where, typically, children begin to explore the world around them and attempt to understand their surroundings, this group of children were, understandably, secluded from this “normal” developmental stage. Parents of young children have explained some barriers they encountered during the Pandemic on their child’s physical activity such as not being able to spend much time with their children due to work, and difficulty finding age appropriate, motivational activities for their children to do (Vega-Perona, et. This group does not use their creativity and imaginations the way previous classes have, and I fear the next two years of students will have a similar experience. One major issue Pre-K teachers are noticing with the current group of students is they do not know how to engage in play. One of the biggest challenges of the Pandemic I have experienced and had never considered until recently was how the then “Pandemic Toddlers,” now Pre-K students, would be impacted. Trying to host a Zoom call with 22 four- and five-year old children was interesting to say the least! On top of being a pregnant mother at the time, I also had to teach my own students. I had to refresh my memory on math strategies, learn how to operate Power School, ensure they had access to a laptop or tablet to make their Zoom meetings, and do my best to entertain them while we were quarantining. My daughters were in first and second grade when our world shut down. The pandemic posed multiple challenges for me as a mother and a teacher. in person to Zoom meetings, socially distanced supply drops, working from home, wearing masks, and quarantining. Teachers, parents, and students adjusted their lifestyles and had to learn a “new normal.” Life went from going to school, work, daycare, the grocery store, a friend’s house, etc. I am sure everyone remembers experiencing or hearing of the horrors and challenges presented by Virtual Learning. Teaching during a pandemic certainly presented its challenges. By Stacia King A Kindergarten teacher’s perspective on how play-based learning is helping with deficits today’s students face. Since then, April 2017, we have not had a mass stranding……. People liked the fact that we built our driftwood whale on the high tide mark and let the sea take it, in an effort to encourage all whales to stay out at sea. So, that said, people joined in with the driftwood whale to show solidarity with the efforts to float real whales, when often they can’t support them when they strand. We have to endure the hot, hot beach and the blustery winds, let alone the emotional turmoil of carrying buckets and buckets of water to keep the stranded whales alive until the next big tide. Often they strand at a difficult to get to location in the bay and it is often necessary to have a wetsuit and great endurance to withstand the long walk out to them. I think everyone here loves the whales and are very distressed when there are mass strandings. 179.00 Handcrafted with gathered beach stones and driftwood from the shores of Java Island Securely fastened with sturdy metal inner frame The base is made. It was a wonderful day for the community coming together to build a tribute to the beautiful whales that swim past our coastline. We built them just under the high water mark, facing out to sea, to allow the sea to come and claim them. Sourced or made by the UK’s best small businesses, these garden sculptures are the perfect gifts for green-fingered loved ones. They scoured the beach for driftwood and we made an entire pod: one huge whale 11 metres long and six other adolescents and a calf. Make the great outdoors feel like your own with these charming garden ornaments. In the end, though, three hundred or so people of all ages and abilities came. Driftwood can be found in the dungeon of the summer erea, you need to break the buckets that are scatterd in the dungeon. We were not at all sure how many people would come. The event was sponsored by the Golden Bay Arts Council. After one of the big whale strandings in February 2017, where 406 pilot whales stranded, I dreamed up a community driftwood whale project, to allow anyone, who couldn’t get out to the Spit to help the whales re-float, the opportunity to pay homage to the whales and encourage them to stay out at sea.Īt Easter 2017, myself and a talented American weaver called Judy Dominic led the community in building a driftwood whale on Collingwood beach, Golden Bay. I live in Golden Bay NZ and we have the unfortunate history of many many whale strandings, especially at the Farewell Spit, which is a 25km sand spit on the northwest corner of the South Island. Prep The Succulents For Planting In The Cedar Driftwood Planter. Briefly wet the moss with water, then wring out the moss and put the moss aside for now. Continuing our theme of With Nature, we share this remarkable community fibre project from the northern tip of the South Island. Since dry moss is very brittle and difficult to manipulate, making it a little moist will allow you to work with it more easily. Driftwood Is the Summer Dungeon the only place to get driftwood It only gives me six for every trip and I need a lot to upgrade tools, so I dont want to do that every day. We’ve established that a flickering screen right in front of your face may affect your sleep, but there’s also the matter of sound. How sounds from your TV affect your sleep “You’re probably getting less exposure to light from a TV that’s across the room rather than a tablet that’s in front of your face,” Dr. However, your proximity to your screen can definitely have an impact here. You could also wake up due to the flashes of light themselves. Your eyelids are made of a thin enough material that this can definitely put you at risk of suppressing the melatonin secretion you need to sleep soundly, Dr. you get those flashes of light, it’s getting through your eyelid,” Donald Greenblatt, M.D., director of the University of Rochester Medicine Sleep Center, tells SELF. What about when you’re actually sleeping? “As long as. What’s more, the light from our tech devices has short wavelengths that make it appear somewhat blue, and some experts believe this “blue light” is particularly good at suppressing melatonin production. For context, a 2012 analysis of TVs with automatic brightness controls conducted by the United States Department of Energy found that most TV viewing occurs at less than 50 lux, so somewhere in between the two extremes posed in The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism study. While the study didn’t explicitly mention TV brightness, the researchers looked at participants living in room light up to 200 lux (the measurement of light intensity), while dim light was less than 3 lux. The researchers found that when compared to dim light, exposure to indoor electrical lighting (also called room light) between dusk and bedtime suppressed melatonin production to some extent in about 99 percent of the participants. This is why those who are experiencing insomnia are sometimes told to limit bright light as they’re trying to prepare their bodies for sleep.Ī 2011 study published in The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism looked at artificial light exposure before bedtime in 116 people with no diagnosed sleep disorders. Thanks to the wonders of modern technology, that’s not super realistic, but the light/sleep tug of war can be very real for some people. “We're not supposed to be exposed to any artificial light at night, period,” Dianne Augelli, M.D., a fellow of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and an assistant professor of Medicine at Weill Medical College of Cornell University, tells SELF. Boot it up and connect your phone, and it will scan for all deleted items and present a list of data you can choose to recover. One of the more popular data-recovery tools out there, Android Data Recovery is available for macOS and Windows, and is great for recovering deleted data from your phone, including text messages. Here are some solid options, both free and paid. As such, it can be a more technical process - and an expensive one too. In this case, a lot of them involve connecting your phone to a computer and using software to dive into your device and find the deleted data. Photo by Sora Shimazaki/Pexels How to recover deleted texts with third-party apps and softwareĪs always with Android, there are third-party apps that can help to fix any problems you might be having. However, this is nowhere near guaranteed. In a desperate situation, you may be able to reach out to your carrier to see whether it would be able to find and restore a backup of messages sent to and from your device. However, any deleted messages will still be deleted from the cloud once syncing occurs, so it's not a perfect solution by any means. AT&T's Messages Backup & Sync and Verizon's Message+ both offer backup and sync options that keep your messages synchronized across devices. You may have some options for restoring your text messages depending on your carrier of choice. Stone Staffordshire/Shutterstock How to recover deleted texts with your carrier Still, if you're willing to go to the lengths of factory resetting to get your messages back, then you'll find the option to restore from a backup during the initial setup phase of a new phone. It's a good backup option if you've lost your phone and want to load all your old data onto a new device, but it's not particularly helpful if you just want to get hold of a message you've accidentally deleted. Yes, you can restore your WhatsApp data easily enough through Drive, and your photos, videos, and documents are available at a moment's notice - but if you want to get your texts back, you'll need to nuke your phone entirely. However, it's something of an extreme option in this case because Google doesn't really offer restorations of SMS and MMS messages without a full factory reset. Google Drive keeps extensive backups of everything from SMS messages to your app lists if you want it to, so Google Drive is a good choice to help recover data after it's been lost. How to recover deleted texts with Google Drive Step 4: If you want to restore multiple messages at once, choose Edit, tick the messages you want to send back, and then select Restore all. Step 1: To archive, swipe your message left or right, and it'll be sent to your Archive. Archiving, rather than deleting, is a good rule of thumb in modern messaging apps, as it's a lot more forgiving than full deletion, but still keeps unwanted messages out of the way. Instead of deleting messages, try archiving them instead, as there's an Archived section you can recover messages from while also keeping them out of sight. There's no native way to recover deleted messages in Google Messages, but there is a way to recover messages if you're willing to use a slightly different way to clear out the clutter. How to recover deleted texts from Google Messages In this guide, we'll show you exactly how to restore deleted text messages on Android. But don't worry, there's often a way to recover deleted text messages from your Android phone. But even the most careful of us slip from time to time, and it's all too easy to accidentally delete the wrong message while lost in the rhythm of removal. The three-dimensional coupled computational fluid dynamics/ computational structural dynamics model is extensively validated against a UH-60 flight-test condition: C9017. The multielement intermesh connectivity was handled by implicit hole cutting overset implementation. This work has received funding from the National Energy Group Major Pilot Project -China ( GJNY2030XDXM-19-10 ) and the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie grant agreement no.A coupled computational fluid dynamics and computational structural dynamics methodology is developed to analyze the effects of a leading-edge slat on rotor performance. The present work provides insights into the mechanisms of supercritical CO 2 heat transfer characteristics as well as practical guidance on the design and optimisation of relevant components. The FSRD distribution of fins is the optimum scheme among the three distributions of the modified airfoil fins channel because its comprehensive performance is 23 – 29% higher than that of the uniform distribution of fins and 2 – 7.6% higher than that of the FDRS distribution of fins. The differences of thermal-hydraulic performance among channels with uniform, FDRS, and FSRD distributions of fins can be explained with the field synergy principle. The match of the local dense distribution of fins with the region near the pseudocritical point could obtain better overall thermal performance in the modified airfoil fins heat exchanger. The results showed that the FDRS and FSRD distributions of fins can enhance heat transfer by improving the distribution uniformity of the temperature difference in the channel. The thermal-hydraulic performance of channels with different distributions of fins was compared under constant heat flux conditions and coupled heat exchange conditions. Based on the uniformity principle of the temperature difference field (TDF), two non-uniform distributions of fins, including the front-dense and rear-sparse (FDRS) and front-sparse and rear-dense (FSRD) distributions of fins, are proposed. The dramatic changes in the thermophysical properties of SCO 2 lead to uneven distributions of local heat transfer coefficient and local temperature difference along the channel, especially in the region near the pseudocritical point (0.99 < T b/ T pc < 1.02). In this work, the local thermal-hydraulic characteristics of SCO 2 in the modified airfoil fins channel were numerically investigated under conditions of m = 1.06 – 2.26 g/s, T in = 328.7 – 388.7 K, and q w = -50 kW/m 2 and -100 kW/m 2. The PCHE with modified airfoil fins has better comprehensive performance than PCHEs with zigzag channels and NACA 0020 airfoil fins and the optimisation of the modified airfoil fins heat exchanger is crucial to the performance improvement of the SCO 2 Brayton cycle system. The printed circuit heat exchanger (PCHE) is an ideal candidate as a regenerator and pre-cooler in the SCO 2 Brayton cycle due to its advantages of high compactness and efficiency. The supercritical pressure CO 2 (SCO 2) Brayton cycle is an efficient and compact power cycle that has promising potential in solar and nuclear power generation systems.
